6.5.4.1) Intravenous dose per cycle of Stanford V Normal 1

Total tried:       Correct:       Wrong:

Regimen : Stanford V for Hodgkin lymphoma.
Cycle: three 4-week cycles. Total regimen is 12 weeks.

  • Doxorubicin, 25 mg/m2, IV, weeks 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11
  • Mechlorethamine, 6 mg/m2, IV, weeks 1, 5 and 9
  • Vinblastine, 6 mg/m2, IV, weeks 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11
  • Vincristine, 1.97 mg/m2, IV, weeks 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12.
  • Bleomycin, 5 units/m2 , IV, weeks 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12.
  • Etoposide, 60 mg/m2 per day IV on 2 consecutive days in weeks 3, 7, 11
  • Prednisone, 40 mg/m2 PO every other day for 10 weeks then tapered by 10 mg PO every other day between week 10 and 12
For doxorubicin, mechlorethamine, vinblastine, vincristine, bleomycin and etoposide calculate the total intravenous dose per cycle for a patient measuring 6 feet in height and weighing 313 lb.

Click on the button below to see the answer and explanations

lb equals 403.02 mg, 48.36 mg, 96.72 mg, 31.76 mg, 80.60 units and 967.25 mg kg

  • The patient height
    = 6 feet
    = ( 6 × 12 ) inch
    = 72 inch
    = 72 × 2.54 cm
    = 182.88 cm

  • patient weight
    = 313 lb
    = 313 × 0.454 kg
    = 142.1 kg

  • BSA for the patient is

BSA `= \quad sqrt(( Height (cm) × Weight (Kg) )/(3600))`

    ` \quad \quad \quad = sqrt(( 182.88 \quad cm × 142.1 \quad Kg )/(3600)) = 2.6868 ` m2

  • For Doxorubicin :
    `( 25 \quad mg)/( 1 \quad m^2 )` × 2.6868 m2 × 6 (days of treatment) = 403.02 mg

  • For Mechlorethamine :
    `( 6 \quad mg)/( 1 \quad m^2 )` × 2.6868 m2 × 3 (days of treatment) = 48.36 mg

  • For Vinblastine :
    `( 6 \quad mg)/( 1 \quad m^2 )` × 2.6868 m2 × 6 (days of treatment) = 96.72 mg

  • For Vincristine :
    `( 1.97 \quad mg)/( 1 \quad m^2 )` × 2.6868 m2 × 6 (days of treatment) = 31.76 mg

  • For Bleomycin :
    `( 5 \quad units)/( 1 \quad m^2 )` × 2.6868 m2 × 6 (days of treatment) = 80.60 units

  • For Etoposide :
    `( 60 \quad mg)/( 1 \quad m^2 )` × 2.6868 m2 × 6 (days of treatment) = 967.25 mg

`\quad \quad` Therefore,
`\quad \quad \quad` 403.02 mg, 48.36 mg, 96.72 mg, 31.76 mg, 80.60 units and 967.25 mg `Ans.`
